RS:Player-Owned Ports

Do you want to learn more about runescape power leveling ?

The commercial section of Port Sarim was set up to trade with the Eastern Lands. Once a grand trading hub that connected the Western Lands to the Eastern Lands the port is now nearly deserted after – over 10 years ago – Sea Monsters suddenly plagued the seas destroying all ships that ventured there. Due to this, trade with the Eastern Lands collapsed, crippling the port. About 5 years ago, the creatures stopped attacking but the port never picked up again; the West forgot about the East.

Your task is to help get the port up and running again, with help from your partner and other interested parties, and bring back as many of the treasures from the Eastern Lands that your ships’ holds can carry.

player owned ports.jpg

Requirements

You require at least level 90 in one of the following skills before you can participate: Fishing, Herblore, Prayer, Runecrafting, Thieving or Slayer.

To create scrolls and unlock abilities, you will need at least level 90 in any of the following skills; Runecrafting, Smithing, Fletching, Cooking and Crafting.

The commercial port section of Port Sarim, Player-Owned Ports can be accessed via portal in the northern section of Port Sarim. To get to the Portal quickly you can use the teleport option on your Captain’s log or teleport to the Port Sarim Lodestone and walk northeast along the docks. You can also use the cabbage-teleport on your Explorer’s ring then head south.

Getting Started

Speak to The Partner, just East of the entry portal, to begin. He will introduce you to the port, and explain how it works. You’ll need to go through a brief tutorial which will introduce you to the main aspects of the port. You’ll be able to find further details on the ports features below.

Note that once the tutorial is over, the Partner will return to his usual position beside the Navigator.

Managing Your Port

While you are in the port, there are two interfaces that you’ll need to take note of. The ‘ships’ interface, accessible via the anchor icon in the bottom-right corner of your screen, and the ‘port’ interface at the top of your screen.

Ships Interface

This interface can take you directly to the shipyard by clicking on your chosen ship. It also lets you know at a glance if your ships are out on a voyage or in the port. You can also rename your ships from here using the rename button.ships.jpg

renaming a ship.jpg

Renaming a ship is a four-step process.

  1. First you must select the prefix. You can choose a random one using the smaller of the two green icons (the larger randomly chooses the entire ship name).
  2. Next, click the dark blue square to choose the middle part of your ship’s name. You can filter these in a variety of ways if the list is too long for you, or if you have a specific idea in mind for your ship. Again, you can have a randomly chosen name if you wish, by clicking the green refresh button.
  3. To choose the last part of your name, click the third dark blue box to see the list of options. These can be filtered or chosen randomly.
  4. To save your ship’s name, press the ‘save’ button. Alternatively, press ‘revert’ if you do not want to change your ship’s name.

Note that you do not have to select all three parts of a ship’s name, but you must have at least the last part of the name.

If you have more than one ship, you can navigate between them using the blue arrows.

Port Interface
port interface.jpg
The port Interface

The interface at the top of the screen will allow you to manage the various aspects of your port, such as building upgrades or sending out ships.

The drop down menu on the left titled ‘Resources’ shows you how many of each item you currently have stockpiled. The items are as follows:

chimes.gif Chimes
bamboo.gif Bamboo ( The Arc )
gunpowder.gif Gunpowder ( The Skull )
black slate.gif Black slate ( The Hook )
cherry wood.gif Cherry wood ( The Scythe )
jade ports.gif Jade ( The Bowl )

You also have trade goods that you can use to craft items from scrolls that you bring back from the Eastern Lands (see here).

The drop down menu on the right shows any visitors that are currently at your port. These change every day, although, for the Black Marketeer, it is only the products that he sells that changes each day. Visiting captains and adventurers will show here.

The icons in the middle of the interface bring up the different aspects of your port:
Voyage List
voyages.gif

Used to send your ships across the ocean. Select a voyage from the left side panel. It will tell you the voyage’s name, the difficulty and the rewards you will receive. The green reroll button allows you to see another voyage, if you don’t wish to take on the one displayed, but you only have 12 rerolls per day and these rerolls (voyage and crew rerolls are separate).

Selecting a voyage shows more details in the right hand panel, including how long it will take. Click the ship you wish to send (the background will go green for the one you have chosen). You can then use the following buttons to make sure you have the perfect setup for the voyage:

‘Add Effect’ – lets you activate items that can improve your ship and crew (see below)
‘Edit Ship’ – opens the shipyard
‘Crew Roster’ – opens the crew roster

Effects Name     Bonus         Name     Bonus         Name     Bonus         Name     Bonus

To ensure the voyage is successful you need to match your ship’s stats to those required for the voyage.

This interface also allows you to take on special voyages that let you meet or help out adventurers. Simply click the ‘special voyages’ tab to see what is available.

Crew Roster

On the left hand side you can view your current crew. Clicking on a crew icon will display their skills and any traits they have in the bottom-left corner.

If you no longer require the services of a crew member or captain, press the ‘dismiss’ button. This means they will no longer be part of your crew and cannot come on voyages.

On the right hand side of the interface is a list of crew that you can hire. You will be able to see their stats and any traits they have here.

The green refresh button allows you to see another crew member, if you don’t wish to hire the one displayed, but you only have 12 rerolls per day (voyage and crew rerolls are separate).

You can earn more rerolls through random events in the port.

For more information on crew and their stats, see here.

Here you can customise your ships. If you would like a ship that is built for speed, and one that is built for combat, you can manage this here.

The interface itself is built of hotspots, within which you have various choices about what to have there. Different choices will affect your ship’s stats.

Note that you have 2 deck item hotspots but both contain the same list of items to choose from.

Most items will be locked locked skillplot.gif until purchased.

To see all of the upgrades and their benefits, click here.

If at any point you’d like to see your ship in all its glory, click the small camera button in the top-left of the screen. This will remove the interfaces and show off your ship. Click it again to return to the shipyard interface.
Upgrade Buildings
build mode.gif

The Upgrade Buildings interface

All buildings start out as dilapidated. You can invest resources into your port to improve it, attracting new crew, captains and providing better stats for your ships.

Use the blue arrows on the left and right of the building name to navigate through the buildings. You will be shown your current building, and the upgrades that are available to you. Upgrades that aren’t available will not be shown until they have been unlocked by purchasing prerequisite upgrades. The upgrades will list the cost and any benefits that the upgrade provides.

Click on an upgrade to purchase it – you will be asked to confirm your purchase before any resources are deducted.

All upgrades, except for totems, icons, portals and the top tier of other building upgrades, must be unlocked by purchasing the previous upgrade.

Note that there are 4 totem hotspots and 3 icon hotspots.

Port Management is where you give special instructions to your captains. In particular you can specify which scrolls they are to hunt for, and which area of the Eastern Lands that you want them to focus on.

Simply click the scroll or area that you want to instruct your captains. You can hover over each scroll and area to see more information about them.
Archipelago Map

Managing Your Crew
Crew

Your crew are the dogsbodies of the port; they do all the hard graft. They have skills in combat, morale, speed and seafaring. Filling your ship with crew that have the right skills can improve your chances of completing voyages successfully.

Crew with coloured hats are typically better in one skill than the others. Other crew icons have a more varied skill set. The skill colours are:

Red = combat
Green = morale
Blue = seafaring
Purple = speed

Some crew members have traits which can offer positive (and negative) bonuses to your ship. Click here to view the list of traits.

Note that for each successful voyage you complete, your crew will gain experience and have the chance to improve their stats. It is worth investing in your crew, but choose wisely who you invest in, as you could hire crew who have higher stats.

You can attract a higher quality of crew member by improving the lodgings building.
Captains
captain customisation.jpg
Captain Customisation interface

Captains are those who give the orders and you cannot send out a ship on voyages without one.

They randomly show up in your bar, but you can attract a higher quality of captain by improving the state of your bar.

To hire a captain, open the crew roster. You can also speak to them in the bar.

Speaking to a hired captain at the bar will give you the choice to decide on their uniform. Click the blue arrows to cycle through your choices of hat, top and legs.

As with crew, some captains have traits which can offer positive (and negative) bonuses to your ship, and captains can level up by completing voyages.

Note that captains can die, although you can equip a lifeboat to your ship to improve the chances of them returning home safely.

You can only hire a maximum 5 captains at any one time. If you want another captain, you will have to dismiss one.
Adventurers

Before an Adventurer can visit the Port, you must complete a voyage to meet them. This voyage will only appear if the player has level 90 in the Adventurer’s associated skill. After this occurs that adventurers will start visiting the Port.

An Adventurer will turn up to the port every day. Note that adventurers are never available as crew to be placed on a ship.

If you have more than 1 Adventurer, there will be a chance of a second Adventurer turning up. This chance will increase with the number of Adventurers.

You can attract the adventurers by changing your port’s icon.

Adventurers can go on special voyages. There are 5 story voyages per adventurer and, if successful, these voyages will grant extra resources, scrolls and XP in the adventurers associated skill (for more information about the rewards click here). Your adventurer will also increase the stats of the ship you send by up to 10% for these voyages.

Each adventurer can only go on ONE voyage for you per day, so keep that in mind when selecting a special voyage. Once you send an adventurer off with your ship, any of the other options involving that character will be removed from your list of potential voyages.

Adventurers can also go on joint voyages together if you choose, but you can still opt to send them on individual voyages. If you choose to send your adventurers on a joint voyage, you will not be able to send them on individual voyages. The same restriction applies the other way: if you send one of your adventurers on an individual voyage, the joint voyage will no longer be available.

Adventurers that can team up for joint voyages are:

The Whaler and the Biologist.
The Missionary and Occultist.
The Convict and the Assassin.

If you want to see more information about the adventurers storyline – these descriptions do contain spoilers – click here to toggle them.

Miscellaneous

Meg is a wannabe-adventurer. She is very enthusiastic but requires a little bit of help from you. Once a week you’ll be able to send her off on an adventure and how she acts on that adventure, depends heavily on the advice that you give her. How successful her adventure is will dictate what rewards, if any, she brings back for you.
Occasionally one of the port’s residents will encounter trouble while your ships are on voyages. You will be told about this when your ships return to port when checking the results. Speak to the resident to find out what they need help with. You will be rewarded for your efforts with port resources.
Speak to The Barmaid to hear the local gossip. It will often reveal useful information.

Final Fantasy Xiv:A Realm Reborn garlean empire

The Garlean Empire controls the majority of the Three Great Continents, the enormous landmass that encompasses Eorzea. Until some fifty years ago, Garlemald was a remote and sparsely populated nation which held little more than a fraction of the northern continent of Ilsabard. But with the arrival of a technological golden age and the concurrent emergence of a brilliant young legatus—now the reigning emperor—in the span of a single generation Garlemald established itself as one of the most formidable forces in all of Hydaelyn.

keyvisual Final Fantasy Xiv:garlean empire

Garlemald is unsurpassed in the field of magitek, a technology which it exploits with devastating effectiveness in warfare. Unperturbed by their lesser numbers, the Garleans went forth upon gigantic flying warships, bearing powerful weaponry the likes of which the world had never seen. One nation after the next fell before their relentless onslaught, first those of the northlands, followed by the sovereign states of the eastern continent, Othard. Employing suppression and conciliation in equal measure, Garlemald indoctrinated the peoples it conquered, thus integrating them into its ever-expanding territory. So it was that the Garlean Empire came into existence.

text bg 010 Final Fantasy Xiv:garlean empire

In the year 1557 of the Sixth Astral Era, a mere thirty-six years from the Empire’s founding, the Garleans brought their campaign of conquest to Eorzea, swiftly bringing the city-state of Ala Mhigo to its knees. Yet following the subjugation of Ala Mhigo, the Empire suddenly ceased its aggressive expansion.

text bg 020 Final Fantasy Xiv:garlean empire

For more than a decade, the continent of Aldenard knew relative peace. In the year 1572, however, the Garlean army once again began its inexorable advance. Using the calamitous arrival of the Seventh Umbral Era to sinister advantage, the Empire prepares to gather the lands of Eorzea into its steely embrace…

That’s a bad thing, because it means you’re going through a fair bit of withdrawal. And while nothing can really fix the fact that you want to be playing but can’t, being able to play around with the character creator might at least help take the edge off. Which you can do today, as the newest benchmark and character creator is now available on the official site.Aside from offering another chance to test your computer’s performance against the game, the new benchmark will allow you to create a new character. It also allows you to save the appearance data from that new character, which can be loaded up again in the launch version or the benchmark for further tweaking. So you could have your character ready to go the moment the game goes live later this month.

Interestingly enough, a little too late for me.  I own every single warcraft music release.  Original by Bush, Duke, & Hayes (my favorite of all the discs); BC by Brower, Duke, & Eelmen; Wotlk by Duke, Stafford, & Brower; Cata by Brower, Duke, Stafford, Acree & Arkenstone; and finally, Mists by “Blizzard entertainment.”  Btw, I’m a teacher and play this and other video game, movie music during my students’ keyboarding practice.

Too awesome! I am incredibly excited about this!! Blizz, your music is art; I can’t get enough. Two wonderful things colliding, this makes me so happy!

LOL the Fog of War

fogofwar League of Legends:Fog of War

Fog of war refers to the obscuring effect that takes place on areas of the map that are not within the vision range of your allies. This means that, while you can see the topography of any area on the map, you can only see enemy units located near allied units or your champion. Take note of the areas surrounding your allies. Notice that these areas are brighter. These brighter areas are within the sight range of your champion or one of your allied units. Also notice that the rest of the map is somewhat shrouded. These shaded regions are covered by the fog of war. Enemies in these shaded regions cannot be seen until they enter the sight range of one of your allies. When enemies enter the sight range of an allied unit, they will be revealed, unless they are able to turn invisible or they are hiding within brush.

  • Note: There are ways of revealing areas on he map that would normally be shrouded in fog of war. The first is the summoner spell Clairvoyance, which can be placed anywhere on the map to reveal that area for five seconds. Stealthed users are not affected by this spell. The second is to buy consumable Vision or Sight Wards, which place invisible wards on the map that reveal enemy units (vision wards reveal stealthed units) for three minutes. Additionally, certain champion spells, such as Karthus’ Wall of Pain or Corki’s Phosphorus Bomb will reveal portions of the map shrouded by fog of war.

implementing new league system for Season 3:League of Legends

LoL infographic shows season 3 at a glance

Season 3 is on its way for League of Legends, and just like the previous seasons, players will be fighting for position in the ranked tournaments. However, this next round of ranked play comes with a twist: Riot Games is implementing a new league system. Why the change? To make competition even more compelling and play more meaningful for everyone.

Instead of just one single ladder for folks to climb, players will belong to a league within one of six different tiers based on their skill. Leagues will be comprised of up to 250 players broken into five divisions (except for the top Challenger tier). Players can rise and fall within the divisions and even work their way into a new league at the next tier.

The new system is detailed in the infographic after the cut; click the image to see the full-res version. And for even more details, check out the official FAQ.

RuneScape 3 Now Live

Do you want to learn more about old school runescape gold?
RuneScape 3 is here! A new age dawns today, kicking off with the Battle of Lumbridge. Along with the hugely customisable New Interface System, the chance for fame in Seasonal Hiscores, over 6 hours of new live performed music and a range of technical improvements, it’s time to play RuneScape your way.

Please note: We strongly recommend that – regardless of your computer spec – you access the Battle of Lumbridge in the Java Client for your first log-in, rather than the HTML5 Beta.

The Battle of Lumbridge (free players and members)

Unless you’re currently in tutorial mode, you’ll be teleported straight to Lumbridge upon log-in. Once you’re there, you’ll see – in no uncertain terms – that the 6th Age has started with a bang.

You’ll meet Kara-Meir upon arrival. She’ll explain what has happened to the landscape surrounding Lumbridge; why all-out war has broken out between two powerful factions; and what you can do to help.

Kara-Meir

You’ll be able to join one of the two factions, and to collect divine tears – fragments of condensed, Guthixian energy that can be gathered through combat and skilling, both on the battlefield and off.

Each day you can collect a set amount of divine tears for your faction – more if you’re a member – and the side which has collected the most after ten weeks will emerge victorious.

Please note: the Battle of Lumbridge is a huge event spanning more than two months, which will change week to week depending on your actions. For full details of what you can do, speak to the NPCs in your faction’s camp and in Lumbridge, and look out for notifications in-game.

For a full guide to the Battle of Lumbridge, you can take a look at the wiki. Be aware that there will be some visual spoilers, though – we strongly recommend logging in and taking a look around first!

There’s also an FAQ that can be found on the forums. Again – bear in mind that there will be spoilers, so log in first and take a look around.

Battle of Lumbridge

Along with the opportunity to take part in this world-shaking battle and to take a hand in shaping the new age, there are some fantastic rewards on offer too. As you contribute divine tears to your cause, you’ll earn renown, which can be exchanged by your faction’s quartermaster for XP lamps, hybrid armour that scales with your Defence level up to 75, emotes, titles and much more. The selection of rewards will expand as the weeks go on, so be sure to take part for as long as the battle rages.

History is written by the victorious, and new worlds forged with courage and steel. Take part in the Battle of Lumbridge and leave your mark on RuneScape’s 6th Age!

Seasonal Hiscores (members only)

Enjoy some time in the spotlight with Seasonal Hiscores. These hiscore tables are run over set periods of time and involve varied areas of RuneScape content, giving everyone – veteran or new player alike – the chance for their shot at glory. Compete for the chance to wear the Crown of Supremacy (and, once your reign’s over, the Crown of Legends), and to earn emotes and titles worthy of your victory. You can view the seasonal hiscores in-game – via the Social tab.

The hiscores section of the website has been revamped too, along with the rest of the website. As well as the top player, clan and seasonal hiscores, you can also track the progress of the Battle of Lumbridge. Take a look at the hiscores page now!

New Interface System (free players and members)

Chances are you’ve already spent some time with the NIS in the beta, but our awesomely customisable interface system is now live! Whether you’re a die-hard fighter, a super-efficient skiller or a wide-eyed explorer of RuneScape’s vistas, every element of the interface is now yours to snap-to, resize and rearrange as you please.

If you aren’t sure where to start, press ‘Escape’ and choose from a range of presets, geared towards combat players, skillers, and those who simply prefer the look of an old-school interface.

A full guide can be found on the wiki. If you have questions, there’s also an FAQ. Get started now!

Technical Improvements (free players and members)

New audio technology means spectacular orchestral music in the game, composed by BAFTA winner James Hannigan and played by the Slovak Symphony Orchestra. Turn up your speakers or stick on your headphones!

You can also view your character in his or her full glory and experience RuneScape from a whole new viewpoint with our newly flexible camera. Zoom in and see what you think!

RuneScape 3 is just the beginning, and you are the driving force of its new age. While you’re getting to grips with the new features, please keep sending us your feedback – we’ll keep listening, and making the game that you want to see.

Please note: the HTML5 Client is still at beta stage. For those of you who want to try out the cutting-edge new client, we encourage you to continue testing it out, but please be aware that optimisation is still underway and performance may be affected.

League of Legends isn’t just one gametype

The Summoner's Guidebook League of Legends isn't just one gametype

Do you want to learn more about lol boosting?

After last week’s edition of the Summoner’s Guidebook, I realized that one of the things I sort of take for granted is the advantage of taking many of LoL’s different gametypes into account when I value a particular item. For instance, last week we talked a lot about Rabadon’s Deathcap, but it (and its sister item Wooglet’s Witchcap) has drastically different values in different game modes. It’s a lot easier to justify buying a Deathcap when you have easy sources of gold and a lot of time when you’re trying to gather it. If you have to fight, more defense becomes an imperative.

If you don’t play a lot of Dominion or Twisted Treeline, you might not realize that Bloodthirster and Infinity Edge are hard to buy when fights can erupt faster than ultimate skills can recharge. Expensive items like a Needlessly Large Rod or BF Sword are hard to justify when you can get some interim item that provides more balanced stats and will help win the fights you’re fighting now.

Playing other game modes also gives you a broader look at League of Legends. You don’t see the value of certain stats — particularly HP — until you realize that an extra 200-500 HP can cause a huge swing in the course of an engagement.

A world where health potions aren’t guaranteed

Dominion and TT are crazy sometimes. In Dominion, you are fighting or jockeying for a fight pretty much all the time. The post-fight recovery period in Dominion is incredibly short; generally the time taken to recall to base, buy, and spend about 15-20 seconds walking back is all it lasts. Encounters generally happen in one of two ways; either one team ambushes the other in the jungle or the two teams throw harassment at each other over a capture point until one team’s initiator sees an opening and decides to take it.

In that environment, buying a health potion doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get even half of the HP from it. In fact, a lot of the time a fight will erupt immediately as you arrive to the battle. It’s easy to forget that in Dominion, buying pots doesn’t win you the long attrition battle that is SR laning. Also, because basing doesn’t take away all of your income in Dominion, there’s no reason not to do it if it’d be risky to stick around otherwise.

Because pots are kind of limited in use and fights are very frequent, base trips (and deaths) become more frequent, buying is more frequent and it becomes more important to buy something that helps right now instead of saving your gold for a rainy day. If there’s a lot of burst magic damage on the enemy team and you have 800 gold, buying that Negatron Cloak right now will make a huge impact on the next fight. It’s probably more worth it to do that and try to work it into some other item like an Odyn’s Veil or Quicksilver item than to save up for a BFS.

Compare that to laning in SR. If your opponent deals burst magic damage, you should probably play safe and farm defensively, avoiding conflict unless she burns her cooldowns. Having Akali or Diana as your lane opponent doesn’t automatically mean you need to buy MR or health since you can avoid getting hit by them and still accomplish your objective: farming. If your goal is to fight her, you still want damage because she can retreat to her big scary tower. You want to kill her quickly.

The altars have unlocked

Twisted Treeline is similar to SR at first glance because it has lanes, minions, towers, and a jungle. There’s a lot of PvE-type gameplay, and farming is an option. However, the similarities really end there.

Laning in TT is a lot different because the lanes are extremely long. I italicized “extremely” there, but I would put it in big 48-point bold font if I could. TT lanes are massive. Even being in the middle of the lane puts you a really, really long way away from your first tower. If you don’t have sight in your jungle approach all the time, you are in deep trouble. There aren’t any wards in TT. That means you’re pretty much always in trouble unless your jungler is clearing his wolf spawn or you can see all three of the enemy players.

In fact, hyper-aggro jungling is pretty much the name of the game in TT. There’s an altar in each jungle, and both teams want both altars. There’s jungle creeps to steal, and they’re worth a lot. If you can see both enemy laners, you can often coordinate an invasion to kill the enemy jungler and steal his altar. Basically everything in TT revolves around jungle roaming because there are no wards and moving where the enemy can’t see creates fear and paranoia in their minds.

The natural evolution of hyper-aggro jungle play is — you guessed it — fighting all the time. The jungler takes the worst of it, but even the laners need to get out of lane frequently to respond to predicted ambushes or to create opportunities. Fights with four to five combatants (there are only six in TT) happen before level 6 all the time. Fights with four to five combatants almost never happen in SR before a tower goes down except as part of a very early, coordinated level 1 invasion. Most of the time, a bottom lane ADC will be level 8 or 9 with thousands of gold worth of items before she sees the enemy top lane player on the same screen as herself. In TT, invasions can start as early as the first altar unlock.

How much is defense worth?

If you’re fighting frequently, you might still be tempted to go for offense. If you eliminate the enemy early, why buy defense?

At low levels, a chunk of bonus HP is huge. A level 2 spell nuke deals 100-120 base damage. A Ruby Crystal is 180 HP, considerably more than one hit. 20 AP (much more than 500g worth of AP) would add somewhere between 12-14 extra damage on that hit instead. If two Annies trade nukes at level 3, the one with the extra health is going to win. In the late game, a fairly tanky mage with items like RoA and Rylai’s will probably withstand the full burst of a Deathcap + DFG mage, and the RoA/Rylai’s mage still has enough AP to kill a glass cannon mage in one combo (it’s character-dependent, obviously).

For autoattackers, it’s a little less clean-cut. A physical attacker probably won’t be doing most of his damage with base numbers so getting +10 AD is a much larger percentage of damage than +20 AP. However, AD is incredibly expensive compared to AP. The short answer is that if you deal spell damage with base ability numbers (even if they scale to AD), building survivability items or penetration items helps you out a lot more because your base numbers do a lot of the work. If you rely on autoattacks, you need to build mostly pure attack because most of your damage is from items.

If you fight all the time, though, building pure attack generates somewhat weak benefits. Even though you will eventually multiply your damage through attack speed and crit chance, HP and armor (or MR) multiply on themselves too and you can’t contribute as much as someone who has sweet base numbers and a lot of survivability. This generally means that, outside of SR, ADCs are kind of weak. If you’re fighting all the time, having a liability for 60% of the game is not an ideal scenario even if that liability eventually wins.

The point that I alluded to last week though is that in general, the recent buffing of defensive items has caused a big shift toward building defense. I’m honestly not sure how long the hyper-squishy glass cannon-type builds will stick around when building HP and penetration is so much more efficient. ADCs have already gotten to the point that playing one without a strong escape is now a total mistake. Mid mage picks have evolved to be either more support-oriented or survivable than before or can simply fight after dying (Karthus will always be strong). TT and Dom players noticed these trends at the start of S3, but they’re starting to creep into SR as well.

“Bruiser meta” is one of those terms that keeps getting tossed around, and more and more picks in SR (at least in LCS) have reflected this sort of trend. Defense has always been strong, but there’s a reason why building mages in TT with basically no damage other than a Void Staff and a Liandry works. It’s because when you can tank the enemy’s upfront burst to the face and laugh, it doesn’t matter that yours does half the damage. You have three or more times the effective HP. It’s pretty obvious who wins that encounter.

League of Legends pros are pro athletes

League of Legends pros are pro athletes, says Uncle Sam

“The United States government recognizes League of Legends pro players as professional athletes, and awards visas to essentially work in the United States under that title,” Riot e-sports manager Nick Allen tells Gamespot.

Allen says that international tourney organization is now much easier, though getting the initial batch of visas was a “lengthy process” that required a lot of legwork in order to provide enough proof to satisfy government officials.

comments

fiftyplusgeekI don’t think we should be calling them athletes. I mean, sure they now have some of the privileges of professional athletic institutions like the NFL or NBA, but I believe these guys should always be referred to as professional gamers. Which, seeing how much money there is in League of Legends tournaments, it’s no joke. And if you actually think about how much time and effort pro gamers invest into their craft, it’s a pretty legitimate field. Now, my parents would probably slap me twice over if I ever thought about dropping out of school to make a living playing LoL. I’d probably slap myself too, but you can’t deny that what these guys do is legitimate and more power to them if they’re able to get sponsors and support themselves financially with it.

ChrisPicardfor those bashing the word “athlete” read the rest of the article. it is about visas for professional gamers. In the past teams have had to use alts and even forfeit because of a visa issue. With the athlete distinction for visas all it is doing is allowing these competitors to not be restricted by a visa for a 2 day tournament.
